Will Ferrell
Will Ferrell
rose to fame as a part of the cast of 'Saturday Night Live,' before starring in
such big-screen comedies as 'Elf,' 'Anchorman' and 'Talladega Nights.' Born in
1967 in Irvine, California, Will Ferrell began his comedy career as an actor in
the improv troupe based in Los Angeles, the Groundlings. Following his
seven-year tenure as a Saturday Night Live cast member, Ferrell was one of the
top comedic actors of the field with off-color hit films like Old School (2003)
or Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004). Ferrell is also co-creator of
the popular video streaming website Funny or Die, and enjoyed success as a
voiceover actor on animated movies such as Megamind (2010). John William
Ferrell was conceived in Irvine, California on July 16 1967. Will Ferrell is
the oldest child of Righteous Brothers keyboardist Lee Ferrell (and Kay
Ferrell), however, he was not exactly the class clown while he was in
University High School. He was quiet and reserved, but he chose to play football
and set a school record for the highest number of field goals made. Even within
the more relaxed environment of his suburban home, Ferrell displayed little of
the hilarious, outrageous outbursts that would later help establish his career.
"Very even tempered, very casual," his mother recalled in an
interview with Esquire. "You're familiar with those Matchbox
automobiles?" Will would be completely happy in lining up all of his
Matchbox cars himself. You could say, "You want to go to Disneyland
today?" He would have to think about the matter. "That's not to say
that Ferrell was a total straight man. A glimpse of his comedic abilities was
evident each day at high school, when he disguised himself to announce the
school's daily events over the PA system. Ferrell was a graduate in 1986, and
enrolled at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. There he
joined the Delta Tau fraternity to pursue an education as a sports journalist.
