Steve Aoki
Steve Aoki was created in Miami, Florida
on the 30th of November 1977. Steve Aoki is an American electro house musician
recording producer, D.J. Music executive. He's the 3rd child of Chizuru
Kobayashi and Rocky Aoki. His father was a wrestler who also helped establish
the chain of restaurants Benihana. There are two siblings who are sisters Kana
who is frequently called Grace as her middle name Grace and brother Kevin
(owner of Doraku Sushi). The half-sister of his model and actress Devon Aoki.
He grew up in Newport Beach and graduated from Newport Harbor High School with
an 1995 B.A. in badminton. He attended UC Santa Barbara and graduated with two
B.A. He earned two bachelor's degrees, one in feminist studies and the one in
Sociology. He produced DIY records and hosted underground shows from his Biko
room in the Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative when he was in college.
It was a concert venue and the Biko room was dubbed The Pickle Patch. He also
was active in student activities at UCSB by being the founder of the
Revolutionary Anti-Imperialist League chapter on campus. In his 20s, Dim Mak
had founded his own record label known as Dim Mak in honor of his childhood
hero Bruce Lee. In March 2010 the artist released I'm in the House, a
collaboration with the Zuper Blahq-like alter-ego of the Black Eyed Peas singer
will.i.am. The song charted at the top of the charts at No. 29 on the U.K.
singles chart in its debut week. The song reached the top five on both the U.K.
Indie Chart and the U.K. Dance Chart. The song was also featured on the MTV
show Jersey Shore as well as in the feature film Piranha and the trailer for
Think Like A Man. Producer and songwriter Lucas Secon confirmed in a May 2010
interview w/ HitQuarters that he and Rivers Cuomo had recently worked with Aoki
on a single. Pollstar identified him as the top-grossing North America dance
artist from performances in 2012. He has collaborated w/ artists like Iggy
Azalea, Afrojack, LMFAO, Linkin Park, Will.i.am, Lil Jon, Blink-182, Laidback
Luke, BTS, Louis Tomlinson, Rise Against, Vini Vici & Fall Out Boy.
He's known for remixes with artists like Kid Cudi
